Each language represents a different way of seeing the world and learning a new one is always a positive experience. Whatever the reason why you want to study Finnish, the advantages of knowing it are multiple and varied. Then, you can read a selection of the field of possibilities that will open before you to study a unique language like Finnish.

1. To be more competent in the labor market
Imagine looking for work in any country without knowing your language. It's going to be really complicated for some and an unsuccessful odyssey for many others. Something similar happens in Finland, where there are job offers for those who do not know Finnish, but these offers tend to be focused on specialists and multinational companies. In Finland, as in all countries of the world, to access the vast majority of jobs it is essential to know the language of the country.

2. Finnish culture is not understood without knowing the language
In addition to facilitating communication with people and competing in the labor market, learning Finnish will also help you to understand the cultural aspect of Finland, celebrations, politics or its traditions. With Finnish you can read the press or listen to the radio to keep up with what is happening around you every day. You can watch films by the renowned Finnish film director Aki Kaurismaki in their mother tongue or be left lost by the endless literary universe Finnish among the cozy libraries of the country.

3. You will have more friends
Finnish knowledge is an essential resource when preparing future encounters or making new friends in Finland. It is not necessary to speak Finnish perfectly to communicate with others. The desire to want to learn it and the effort involved in doing it is admired and well valued by itself. If you also share with the Finns the addiction for coffee, in a short time you will sit down to order Kahvia (coffee) in the bars of Finland as if you were at home.

4. Finnish knowledge opens more doors to study
If you are thinking of going to study in Finland, you should know that education in universities (or yliopisto) is free and that classes are taught in Finnish, Swedish or English. There are many subjects and even some careers that are in English, but not knowing Finnish limits you a lot. Most of the educational offer is in Finnish, with no Finnish knowledge you will be left out of all this.

5. To not lose yourself and facilitate your communication
Having basic knowledge of Finnish will make life easier and less tiring everyday practical issues. Finding your favorite milk at the supermarket, knowing which parties to go to and when they celebrate them or finding out about a good offer if you are looking for an apartment, depend on your level of Finnish. The more you know, the less time and energy you lose.

6. To talk to the whole world
It is true, in Finland there is a very good level of English and many Finns have knowledge of other languages, but it is also true that a large part of people of all ages do not know how to communicate in Finnish. For example, children do not know English. Doing any paperwork or bureaucratic procedure will be much easier in Finnish, it prevents you from suffering embarrassing situations and, in addition, you stay well with everyone.
