No worries, Corinna!

And especially with location names it can be confusing, as the way they are said sometimes varies according to each place... I'm sorry we Finns are so confusing sometimes...! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is due to old habits and traditions, so people have just started to say one way, despite it hasn't followed "the rules" so to say.

Best Wishes,

Päivi

Hyvää uutta vuotta, Päivi!

Ah, yeah I do remember that now. It's just kind of confusing because sometimes I see letters dropped or changed and sometimes not ("Helsingissä" and "Helsinkiin", or "Turussa" and "Turkuun", for example), so I'm not always sure when to drop letters or change them. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Moi Corinna ja hyvää uutta vuotta! ( Happy New Year!)

The removal of the 'p' is about consonant gradation, which very often happens with consonants 'k', 'p' and 't'.

The double consonants are called "strong", and they are "weakened" when an ending is added to the word - this means the other consonant is removed.

Best Wishes,

Päivi

Whoops, I forgot to write "myös". (or maybe "-kin" on one of the words instead?)

Moi, Päivi!

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure if I had to take it out or not. I'm still not sure when letters change or get removed. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Kas, teen ostoksia musiikkikaupassa.

Almost perfect!!

Just remove one 'p' from the kirjakauppa; 'kirjakaupassa'.

Best Wishes, Parhain terveisin,

Hi Constance,

We're developing and soon we'll have a new Absolute Beginner series for Finnish, where the basics about Finnish verbs will be introduced.

Meanwhile, you can check the verbs already conjugated for each lesson on the Lesson Notes PDF.

If you have any questions about any specific verb, please let us know!
