John: This is Must-Know Finnish Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 15. In this lesson, you'll learn teenage slang.
John: When you want to fit in with the teens, you'll need these expressions.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Aino: Nälä!

John: Aino, what's our first expression?
Aino: Nälä!
John: It is an abbreviation of
Aino: No älä!,
John: which literally means "Well don't!" But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "You don't say!"

John: Use this slang expression when you want to say something is fantastic and dreamy! This word used to be used mainly by teenagers and young women; nowadays, it is also used in a humorous and sarcastic tone by almost anyone. The origin of the expression is the word
